The 90s Look We are Swooning Over

The 90s: A decade that conjures up a few fashion regrets. Platform shoes, vinyl boob tubes, silver lurex, homie pants, shockingly low low-rise jeans, tinted sunnies (when Backstreet came back), long leather blazers (we’re still waiting for an explanation) and way too much denim (Oh Britney)… are you cringing with me yet?

The only trend that we stand by is the head-to-toe plaid inspired by Alicia Silverstone’s iconic and clueless Cher. That and the Timeless Cowl. We collated images over the ages, proving that the cowl continues to stand the test of time. Cultivate an air of cool, classic and calm in this everlasting look.

That time when Pip stole the show in a draped silk ivory gown by the King himself, McQueen.

Iriana Shayk stepped out with Bradley Cooper in 2015 in sensual blush silk, a beacon of confidence and sophistication. The pair are still going strong.

Izabel Goulart was doused in delicate silk chiffon at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

Let’s go back, way back, to 1998 when Claudia Schiffer reigned supreme and the cowl neck owned the red carpet.

Angelina Jolie was simply stunning wearing this white cowl dress in the final scenes of The Tourist, saving the film from self-destruction.

1997 was an era of Titanic, Diana, Harry Potter, Rachel Green and The Spice Girls. It was also an epic time for the cowl, and Cindy Crawford gives us all kinds of nostalgic vibes in this classic look.

Kendall Jenner looked undoubtedly striking in this silk slip at the Victoria’s Secret show in Paris in 2016. We love how her simple brunette mane and low-key accessories let the dress do the talking.

Recreate the look with the Aglaia Silk Cowl Camisole, the must-have staple piece for the chic minimalist.

We’re (im)patiently waiting for the cool change to come to Queensland so we can repeat Kendall’s off-duty look.

Kate Moss transcends time, draped in this luxe silk piece. The It Girl of the 90s could easily wear this dress today and it would still look relevant.

Amber Heard was picturesque in this column cowl dress at the The Art of Elysium Heaven Gala.

Oh Olivia. The girl can do no wrong.

Keri Russell plunged onto the red carpet at the 2019 Golden Globes in this ravishing gown with a daringly low cowl neck.
