Mother's Day Ethical Gift Guide

I may or may not be writing this post so that I can send the link to my husband, as a not-so-subtle hint for a Mother’s Day gift. That being the case, I thought there might be a bunch of other  mamas out there who might want to pass on the link to their husbands or kids! Here are our favourite sustainable and ethical brands, and the gifts we are coveting this Mother’s Day.

YCL JEWELS. YCL has released new collection, Astrologia, in 18k gold fill with pendants that represent your star sign. Each necklace is customisable to include a mini star sign pendant, perfect for mother and child, so Mum can wear her baby close to her heart. YCL pieces are consciously crafted, cruelty-free, use minimal packaging and are made in limited runs.

LACK OF COLOR.  If Mum is sustainably chic, then she will love an innovative accessory. Made with sustainable materials like straw and palm leaf, and handcrafted in Mexico and the Dominican Republic, Lack of Color is a winner.

STATE OF ESCAPE. This is the ultimate Mum bag, big enough to throw in a small child if you need to. Just kidding. Each bag is carefully crafted in Australia, with a meticulous quality procedure in place so you know it’s going to stand the test of Mum life.

HUXTER SOAPS. If Mum is ditching plastic this year (Go Mum!) then she will love the renaissance of the trusty soap bar. Huxter Soaps are wrapped in paper packaging boasting beautiful artworks from local Australian Artists, and the products are made here in Australia.

SILK CAMI. For the Mums who love a little bit of ethical luxury, this is the wardrobe treasure that she will wear for a lifetime. The cowl neck cami is our best selling piece as it is transeasonal and pairs with everything in her wardrobe. Available in an array of colours.

BEESWAX WRAPS. For the eco mums, or mums who are still using cling wrap (gasp!), these beeswax wraps from Heartfill are a great alternative that can be used over & over again. They keep your food extra fresh and save the planet in the process. Ideal for school lunches, cheeses, left overs etc… Made with Australian beeswax on 100% cotton with coconut oil.

BIOLOGY SKINCARE. For the Mum who deserves a little pampering. Australian-made body and hair products, free from nasties with pure essential oils, and they smell absolutely amazing.

SAHAJA YOGA MATS. Sahaja yoga mats are the luxury, eco-friendly mats that give back. The company is a social enterprise who have partnered with Illumination Solar to give solar light to families around the world who don’t have access to the simple luxury of switching on a light at night. The base of the mat is made from natural tree rubber, the micro-fibre upper towel is made from recycled plastics, and they are printed with non-toxic water based inks. Wait there’s more – you can purchase a matching mini mat for your kid. Stop it!

COCONUT BOWLS. Eat stylishly and sustainably. Handcrafted from coconuts discarded as waste, every purchase helps the environment and supports rural craftspeople. Perfect for picnics or eating alfresco as they are lightweight enough to carry around – plastic picnic-ware be gone! They are also a fun alternative to plastic bowls for kids, or can be used as serving dishes for any delicious appetiser.
